Ramadhān Preparation: The Power of 30 Du’ās
Ramadhān is a month of mercy, forgiveness, and immense blessings—a time when our du’ās are especially powerful, particularly at the moment of iftar. The people of Tarim had a beautiful tradition of preparing for this sacred month by writing a list of 30 du’ās, one for each night of Ramadhān. Each evening, as they broke their fast, they would focus on that specific du’ā, pouring their hearts out to Allah at the moment when prayers are most readily accepted.
This practice is a powerful way to be intentional about your supplications. Often, when we raise our hands to make du’ā, we struggle to articulate exactly what we want, or we forget the many things our hearts long for. By preparing in advance, we ensure that no opportunity is wasted, and we are more mindful in our conversations with Allah.
How to Prepare Your 30 Du’ās:
1. Start Today – Take a notebook, journal, or even your phone, and begin listing out the things you want to ask from Allah. Don’t rush; let it be a gradual process.
2. Be Specific – Instead of general du’ās, try to be as detailed as possible. For example, instead of “Ya Allah, grant me success,” you could say, “Ya Allah, grant me success in my studies/work, bless my efforts with sincerity, and open doors of opportunities that are best for me.”
3. Balance Your Du’ās – Ask for both worldly and spiritual blessings. Pray for your dunya (provision, health, family) but also for your akhirah (steadfastness, forgiveness, closeness to Allah).
4. Make Du’ā for Others – Include your loved ones, the Ummah, and those in difficulty. The Prophet ﷺ said that when you make du’ā for someone in their absence, the angels say, “Ameen, and for you the same.”
5. Keep Your List Accessible – As you go through Ramadhān, review your list and focus on one du’ā each night. Let it be a moment of deep connection between you and Allah.
Ramadhān is an opportunity to turn our hopes and dreams into heartfelt supplications. By taking this small step of preparing your 30 du’ās, you are setting yourself up for a month of focused, meaningful prayers that, In Sha Allah, will bring great barakah into your life.
May Allah accept our du’ās, grant us what is best, and allow us to witness a transformative Ramadhān.
